Detail : My Dad, was stationed at GFAB when it was a training base in 1942. He passed away several years ago. His name, Charles J Farris Jr. I have a yearbook from 1942 with all personell pictured. He made a carreer of the Air Force and retired in 1965. I was born there in 1943. He went back to the base in 1956 and was there untill sent to Saudi Arabia in 1958. He was in food service and Club Management most of his carreer. In the 50´s we lived in base housing outside the main gate. Played many a day along the creek that boardered the main gate side of the base.

Detail : Hi, I was born at the Greenville Air Force Base in 1956. My father was Charles A. Batts. This website is so interesting to me, but I was unable to view the 1957 yearbook. He was not a pilot in training, but I was interested in looking him up anyway. He passed away in 1996. Any info on him during his tour at the GAFB would be appreciated. I still live in Greenville by the way. Thanks, Bonnie

Hi Billy Ray,
I first signed the guest book 03-03-2003 so it would look as 03-03-03. This was my 70th birth day as I was born 3-3-33.
I don´t remember what I said but Francine and I are looking forward to seeing every one in about 3 weeks in Greenville. We have always had a great time and we are sure that this will be the best.
Thanks again for the great job that you do in keeping this web page going.

Comments: Glad to see the guestbook is back up. I was stationed at GAFB from about Mar 1953 to Aug. 1955. The base was operated by a civilian contractor for about 6 months after I arrived, before the military took it over. I remember it raining for 15 days straight when I arrived. I was an emergency night electrician in the 3506 Air Installations Squadron, during the last year or so of my tour at GAFB. Earlier, as an electrician, I climbed the water tank once a week to check and/or replace the beacon light. I happend to be on duty the night the cadet decided to buzz the G-bridge. He decided to try and fly under it, but hit it broadside hitting the large gas pipeline. It sent flames high into the night air. They are currently building a new bridge ( http://www.greenvillebridge.com/ . I spent a lot of time at the local tent roller rink, even working the floor for free skating privilege. I married a girl from AR in April 1955. We married at the G-courthouse and just celebrated 51 years. While off duty and at my wifes parents home, a couple cadets decided to dogfight across the river from G in AR and one ended up crashing, driving his plane into the ground up to the wings. Have lots of fond memories of G. Will try and attend the reunion this year. Thanks Billy, for the web page and the guest book. Keep up the good work and I would be interested in connecting with anyone via email or ??

Detail : Comments: The museum at the GAFB is awesome and I enjoy reviewing it each time I have an
occasion to go out there. My family owned and operated a motel, King´s Rest Court on HWY 82
East, Greenville, MS, before and during WWII. My parents were Herman and Louise Caillouet.
Many of the families of cadets and airmen stayed with us during this time. Like so many local families,
we became long time friends with many of you. Through genealogical research, I find that a cadet
and later an instructor named Billy Ferebee was stationed here during the war and is a
distant cousin to me. If any of you know of his whereabouts, or some information about
him, I would appreciate it your letting me know. Thank you/fcc

Would love to hear from people we knew that were friends during those years. Ken and I were married 1957 and are now retired at Yorktown,VA.

Comments: I can´t remember what I had entered into the guestbook the first time a few years ago but will try to say something about my time at Greenville. I was at Greenville from Sep 54 to Sep 58. I stayed in the AF up until 1969 and then applied for and received an appointment as a Warrant Officer in the US Army. Both branches were great to me and if there is any one thing I wished there was more of during my career, it would be that there be more places that were like Greenville. Greenville was the most memorial of all my assignments most probably because it was my first permanent assignment, I was married there and my first child was born there. But there was a feeling at Greenville that it was like your home town and that you belonged there even though many like myself came from many miles away. I left behind several friends there but was fortunate enough to meet several of them again throughout my military service in many different places around this ole world. I am looking forward to the day when I can meet the man directly responsible for this website, Billy R. Smith, because in my books he is doing an outstanding job with all this. Surgery kept me away this year but a trip there is still on my agenda in the future. I know this is primarily a maintenance squadrons effort but I would like to see more people from other units that were at Greenville to join in. I was assigned to the Wing Hq Squadron while there and worked in the Base Personnel Office. I had several friends that worked in the maintenance squadrons and sure would enjoy to see them again. Once again, kudos to Billy R. Smith for a great job.

Also, to anyone that may have known me there, send an email.

Detail : We really enjoyed meeting and visiting with everyone at the reunion. Thanks to the three amigo´s and to everyone that helped to make this such a success. If you missed going to Ben Nelken´s museum on Saturday afternoon, you missed seeing a world of Greenville history. I hope to go back someday to spend more time looking at the great and wonderful things he has collected. Thanks again for a wonderful time.

Detail : Just wanted to say how wonderful it is to stumble across your info. I am the step grandaughter of the late Joe "Eagle Rock Joe" Ours whom some of you may recall. I was born in 1962 and my grandmother, who we just buried beside my grandfather last Wednesday, ran the cafe out at the Air Base when I was a little girl. I used to tap dance for the crowd scuffing up Gram´s freshly waxed and immaculately clean floors and I loved to sit and hear Joe talk with his buddies for hours, until he would either take me up in the air or run me off. My nick name was "Kellie Dog". Not the "princess" or "Sug" I would have preferred but it was well earned. Joe called me this because he said I followed him around like a little puppy dog. That was because I knew when Joe got ready to go flying, if I wasn´t around, I didn´t get to go but if I got on his nerves, I was sent inside. So, I learned to follow him around like a puppy dog never making much of a peep and I got to spend a lot of time in the back seat of a crop duster. God has truly blessed me with some wonderful experiences and memories of the Greenville Air Base. May God Bless all of you.
