Detail : I attended UCC in Centre Abington from 1957 to 1966, when I left to attended UCC in North Abington, September 1966 to June 1968. I so fondly remember Mr. & Mrs. Libbey as our youth group leaders, and our trip to the Cape Cod. Of course I can recall so many other events when had as teenagers in that youth group, i.e. Christmas trips into the Boston Common, every December visiting places and signing Christmas Carols around the town; I can recall when Mr. Burns allowed me to play in the church brass quartet on a few Sundays.
My fondness memory was in the UCC, in Centre Abington, attending youth church and the day I received my bible. However, the most fun at that church was when youth church let out and we would race up those old center stairs to ring the church bell. I left Abington in August of 1968, for the Air Force, and I last attended UCC, in Centre Abington, on Christmas eve service 1970 before leaving for my second tour of duty to Viet Nam. Church was a big part of my life, as it is now. Thanks for what you provided to me, and most of all thanks for being there for me. I owe a lot of thanks to those who lead me to those churches, as it made me who I am, because of the ministry that we had at both UCC churches. May God bless all of you for the wonderful job you do, and your service you provide. |

Detail : Just saw online the story about the time capsule. My dad, Tom Campbell, was pastor in 1956. I wonder if there is still anyone there that I know!

Detail : Greetings!
Please forgive this intrusion, but I’m writing to invite you to visit “Straight-Friendly”, a daily devotional blog for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people that I recently launched. The goal is to provide GLBT believers an on-line site that offers a daily passage of Scripture, followed by a five-to-six paragraph discussion that (hopefully) reflects many of their concerns.
The underlying concept is very basic. As followers of Jesus, we guide our lives by His commandment to love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and we love our neighbors as ourselves. For GLBT Christians, this urges us to extend our love and understanding even to those who deny our claim of faith or seek to exclude us from the Body of Christ. In other words, instead of waiting for the church-at-large to become gay-friendly, it’s incumbent on us to become straight-friendly.
Already, since starting the blog just over a month ago, I’ve learned this message tremendously resonates with readers. Several have remarked that even though they—like I—have been blessed to find a welcoming church home (like yours), “Straight-Friendly” has inspired them. This is poignantly true for those who’ve been rejected by traditions, congregations, and family who first nurtured their spiritual growth.
I myself am an “orphan” of faith-based intolerance. As the son of two Pentecostal ministers, my entire upbringing was anchored and centered on faith. Reconciling my Christian walk with my sexuality was never a problem. But after coming out, I faced numerous heartbreaks when my natural and church families refused to accept me as I am—as I fully believe God created me.
For more than a decade, I avoided Christian fellowship altogether. But, thank God, I eventually came to grips with my situation. Through prayer and Bible study, I learned (actually, re-learned) to take back full responsibility for my faith and happiness as a believer. This experience gave birth to “Straight-Friendly.”
If you have a moment, I encourage you to take a glance at it. I trust you’ll find it worthwhile and hope you’ll recommend it to others. I most definitely welcome your insights and guidance. The Internet has become a minefield for the gay community, promoting no end of self-defeating ideas and behaviors. I sincerely pray that “Straight-Friendly” will grow into an on-line oasis where GLBT people can gain greater strength and determination as followers of Christ.

Thank you.
Yours in Christ,
Tim

Detail : Hi,
I work at MainSpring in Brockton. We appreciate your previous donations to our family homeless shelters. Currently, we are in need of new or gently used twin sized sheets, blankets, and new pillows. I am writing to ask if you would put a message out to your congregation to see if you could collect these items for us. Please contact Pat Perry at 508-427-6448 x24 if you can help in any way.
Thank you,
Erika Barber |

Detail : I used to be your pastor for a while in the mid 60´s when you merged with the United Methodist Church and the other UCC Church in Abington. I was the former U M pastor. I was going to Boston U school of Theology at the time. My youngest son, Kabir Moss, is going to Emerson University this January, so hopefully some day I may be able to visit you. I´m glad you are alive and well! |
